§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) whether he will permit persons over the age of 40 years who have taken and passed a test for a class 3 heavy goods 169W licence to undergo training and take a test for a class 1 heavy goods licence;
(2) what was the failure rate, by number and percentage, of persons over the age of 40 years who took the test for a class 1 heavy goods licence; and what was the failure rate by number and percentage of persons above the age of 40 years who failed the same test, not having passed a test for a class 3 licence.
§ Dr. GilbertThere is no upper age limit for undergoing training or taking a driving test on any class of heavy goods vehicle. I understand that some drivers over the age of 50 have been successfully trained under the Training Opportunities Scheme. I regret, however, that the details of the failure rate for which my hon. and learned Friend asks are not available.
