§ Mr. Georgeasked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he is considering further help to the washing machine industry in addition to the reduction in 121W the VAT rate announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
§ Mr. Les HuckfieldThe needs of the washing machine industry are being closely examined by representatives of management, unions, Government and NEDO under the Government's industrial strategy, in the working group on domestice electrical appliances. The Government have already relaxed credit controls and significantly reduced the level of VAT. Requests for further assistance will be listened to sympathetically.
