§ 36. Sir G. de Freitasasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that the Monday after the second Saturday in April will be a bank holiday, designated Easter Monday, in 1977 and succeeding years.
§ Dr. SummerskillNo. The Government do not think it right to vary the arrangements for Easter until the full concurrence of the Churches has been obtained. The alteration of the date of the Easter Monday bank holiday by itself could have the unwelcome effect of depriving people of four continuous days of holiday.
