§ Dr. OwenFor the purposes of compiling population statistics the Registrar General defines an immigrant as a person who has resided abroad for a year or more and who arrives in the United Kingdom with the intention of staying for a year or more. Where possible the statistics take account of changes, subsequent to arrival, in a person's intended length of stay in the United Kingdom.
