§ Mr. Maurice Macmillanasked the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of the population of the United Kingdom is (a) not yet at work, namely, school-children and students, (b) retired and (c) available for work only for limited periods, all expressed in terms of per 1,000 population.
§ Mr. John Fraser,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 8th April 1976, Vol. 909, c. 288–9], gave the following information:
At June 1975 it is estimated that, per thousand population in the United Kingdom, there were 269 children aged 0 to 15 or school-children and full-time students aged 16 and over. As regards the proportion of retired persons there is no reliable estimate later than that for 1971 given in my earlier reply.
