§ Mr. George Rodgersasked the Lord Advocate if he will take steps to harmonise Scottish law with that prevailing in the remainder of the United Kingdom.
The Lord AdvocateI do not propose to take steps to assimilate the law of Scotland to that of England and Wales. It would be no more appropriate to impose the law of England upon the people of Scotland than to impose the law of Scotland upon the people of England. The Government will, of course, bear in mind the advantages of some harmonisation between the laws of the various parts of the United Kingdom where this is for the common benefit.
