HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 c544W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether there has been any change in the minimum height of recruits for the RUC as a result of a changeover to metrication; what is the minimum height requirement in both systems; and whether any change is intended.

Mr. Moyle

With effect from 1st January 1976, the Royal Ulster Constabulary Regulations were restated to provide a minimum height for recruits of 172 cm. for men and 162 cm. for women, instead of 5 ft. 8 in, and 5 ft. 4 in, respectively. The conversion to whole centimetres represents a slight reduction in the minimum height standard, consistent with that in Great Britain.
