HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 c623W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will estimate the cost to public funds of the prosecution of Mr. Peter Hain; and if he will set up a public inquiry into how the case came to be brought.

The Attorney General

I have been asked to reply.

The cost to public funds of the prosecution is not yet known. I have carefully examined the evidence available to the prosecuting authorities and have discussed the case thoroughly with the Director and his staff and am satisfied that the decision of the Director, that there was a prima facie case suitable for trial by jury, was a reasonable one.
