HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 c604W
Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether she will make a statement on the outcome of the recent unit pricing experiment on meat and on the present position of her price marking programme.

Mr. Maclennan

A report on the meat pilot scheme has been circulated today to all the organisations that took part and meetings are to be held shortly to discuss outstanding problems. I will then prepare proposals for an Order. Formal proposals for legislation are now being drawn up to extend both weight marking and unit pricing to many varieties of cheese. A meeting will be held shortly to consider outstanding problems before final proposals are made for extending unit pricing for fish. A draft order modifying provisions relating to the sale of prepacked milk from vending machines is now before Parliament: if it is approved I expect to make this the subject of a unit pricing Order shortly after Easter.
