§ Dr. Brayasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total subsidy, in the form of income tax allowances, paid to the owners of private houses in 1975.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonI have been asked to reply.
Assuming that my hon. Friend is referring to relief from income tax for payments of mortgage interest, the latest estimate for 1975–76 is £865 million. This 578W estimate reflects a downwards revision from the previous estimate as a result of later information on the total of mortgage interest payments.
