HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 c580W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give publicity to the fact that two-thirds of the doctors who emigrate return to Great Britain, including about 200 from the United States of America, Canada and Australia out of 600 in total, according to recent figures.

Dr. Owen

Exact figures for recent years are not available, but certainly many United Kingdom or Irish born doctors who leave do return. Figures for the number of such doctors leaving and returning each year have been published on a number of occasions, though the former tend to attract greater attention than the latter. In this context I welcome the recent article in theGeneral Practitioner to which my hon. Friend has drawn my attention.
