Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of employees engaged in the chemical industry in Scotland and in England and Wales, respectively; and if he will express the figures in percentage terms.

The industrial detail in the quarterly statistics of employees in employment analysed by region gives estimates for the combined group comprising Coal and Petroleum Products, and Chemicals and Allied Industries, that is Orders IV and V of the Standard Industrial Classification. Provisional estimates for December 1975 are given in the following table:
