HL Deb 13 April 1976 vol 369 c2140WA
Lord BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will take steps to require the management of a public company to inform their employees of any transference of control to another company, particularly of transference to a foreign-controlled company.

Lord JACQUES

Provisions on this subject are contained in Article 9 of the draft EEC Directive on the safeguarding of employees' rights and advantages in the case of mergers, takeovers and amalgamations (R 2155/75), which was debated in the House on 8th April. The Government support these provisions in principle, subject to agreement being reached on matters of detail. When the Directive is approved by the Council of Ministers, the Government will introduce legislation to give effect to its provisions.

House adjourned at four minutes before eight o'clock.
