HC Deb 13 April 1976 vol 909 cc454-5W
Mr. Jopling

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is now able to announce a decision on the date from which the increased compensation limits under the brucellosis and tuberculosis eradication schemes will be operable.

Mr. Peart

I have given further consideration to the date at which the increased limits, announced on 23rd February—[Vol. 906, c.34]—should take effect. I have decided that, because of the special circumstances that apply in this case, appropriate ex gratia payments will be made to give owners of cattle slaughtered in the period 1st November 1975 to 24th February 1976 the benefit of the increased limits. These payments will be based on the valuations made before slaughter.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has decided that the same arrangements will apply in Scotland.
