Mr. Macfarlane

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what has been the percentage increase in charges for the supply of electricity for use in floodlighting sports grounds between April 1974 and April 1976.

Mr. Eadie

I am informed by the Electricity Council that electricity for floodlighting sports grounds of all kinds is charged under a variety of tariffs and a definitive figure is not available. However, it is estimated that commercial tariffs generally increased by about 70 per cent, on average between April 1974 and April 1976.
