§ Sir Bernard Braineasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what research bodies in the United Kingdom are concerned with the production of protein concentrate from indigenous British sources for animal feed and human food respectively, or both; and what grants have been made by his Department or are contemplated to support such work.
§ Mr. StrangThere is a very wide range of research establishments funded by Her Majesty's Government or by private industry, which are concerned with the production of protein concentrate from indigenous sources. My Department makes substantial payments to the Agricultural Research Council for commissioned work in this sector. Additionally, work is conducted within my Department. My right hon. Friend does not contemplate making any significant changes.
§ Sir Bernard Braineasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) il he will give estimates of the annual quantities of soya and other protein concentrates which have been used in human diets in the United Kingdom in the years 1973 to 1975; and what is likely to be the figure for 1976.
(2) if he will give the figure in terms of tonnages and costs of the annual imports into the United Kingdom from the USA of (a) soya concentrates or isolates and (b) other protein concentrates for direct human use;
(3) if he will give estimates of the annual quantities of soya and other protein concentrates manufactured in the United Kingdom for human use in each of the years from 1973 to 1975 and what will be manufactured in 1976.
