Mr. Henderson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, (1) what was the total value of canned fish purchased by his Department during 1975; and what is his estimate of purchases during 1976;

(2) what was the value of all foodstuffs purchased by his Department during 1975; and what is his estimate of purchases during 1976.

The value of all foodstuffs purchased by my Department on behalf of the World Food Programme in 1975 was £1,655,858. Estimated expenditure for 1976 is £1,421,224.

The total value of canned fish purchased on behalf of the World Food Programme in 1975 was £97,240. Purchases in 1976 to date total £159,192.

In addition, some purchases of food were made in 1975–76 for the emergency food services and strategic reserves but it is not in the public interest to disclose details.
