HC Deb 12 April 1976 vol 909 cc384-5W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether the recent award to 43 Birmingham educational advisers and educational psychologists was approved on the grounds that negotiations began before the policy limiting pay increases to £6 was introduced in July 1975; what will be the immediate cost of the award; and what will be the annual cost when the award is implemented nationally.

Miss Margaret Jackson

This award was not subject to current pay limits as it was the result of arbitration commenced before 11th July 1975 on the annual settlement for the previous pay round for a group with an operative date prior to 11th July 1975. I understand that the immediate cost for the 43 educational advisers and 25 educational psychologists employed by Birmingham is £87,000. The annual cost, nationally, will be a little over £3 million.
