HC Deb 08 April 1976 vol 909 c273W
Mr. Macfarlane

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the average percentage increase in local authority rates between 1974 and 1976.

Mr. Oakes

Although a number of authorities have still to provide details of their 1976–77 poundages, it is estimated that in England and Wales average non-domestic rates will have increased over the two years since 1974–75 by about 40 per cent. In the same period average domestic rates levied are estimated to have increased by about 35 per cent.
