HC Deb 08 April 1976 vol 909 c317W
Mr. Cormack

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many areas of great landscape value have now been designated in Scotland; and if he will list them.

Mr. William Ross

Areas of great landscape value are not formally designated in Scotland. Ninety-five areas have, however, been defined and incorporated in approved development plans, in addition to which some planning authorities have operated planning control policies in certain areas as if they were areas of great landscape value but without incorporating them in development plans. Areas of great landscape value are not described by name; their boundaries are identified on the maps which form part of development plans, with a supplementary general description in the accompanying written statement. It is not therefore practicable to supply the list sought.
