§ Mr. Kinnockasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost in the financial year 1976–77 of increasing the value of the death grant to £125 for: (a) those persons who satisfy the contribution conditions for a full grant, (b) those persons who satisfy the conditions for a half-rate grant, (c) those men aged 65 years and over and women aged 60 years and over on 4th July 1948 and (d) all other persons failing to satisfy the conditions for a grant at the full-rate; and what savings on supplementary benefit would arise as a result of each of these.
§ Mr. MeacherIn respect of (a) £42 million, (b) £16 million, (c) £6 million and (d) £2 million, assuming inclusion of children. Savings in supplementary benefit would be insignificant.
