HC Deb 05 April 1976 vol 909 cc58-9W
Mr. Pavitt asked

the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the concern amongst medical laboratory technicians working in the National Health Service at suggestions made by officials in her Department that the opportunities for medical laboratory technicians to pursue their studies to enable them to gain the Fellowship of the institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences should be severely limited, whether she will give an assurance that no such limitation will be imposed.

Mr. Meacher

Medical laboratory technicians in common with other NHS staff will continue to be given reasonable facilities for advanced training. It has been suggested to the Institute that the amount of training financed by the NHS should be related to foreseeable staffing needs; the implications will need to be discussed further with the Institute and other interested bodies.
