§ Mr. Michael Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what is the Government policy with regard to students who study by correspondence;
(2) if the Government have any proposals for bringing the financial assistance for correspondence students more into line with that to other students;
(3) if any guidance has been given to local authorities about the distribution of discretionary grants to correspondence students.
§ Mr. Gerry FowlerLocal education authorities may make grants at their discretion to correspondence students in the same way as to any other students not entitled to a mandatory award. I have no separate policy with regard to correspondence students and I do not consider it would be appropriate to develop one.
