HC Deb 02 April 1976 vol 908 c611W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if she will commission research into the reaction of carbon monoxide and chlorine and the production of phosgene;

(2) if, in view of the connection between carbon monoxide from cigarettes and chlorine from the water and the production of phosgene, she will prohibit smoking in or near swimming baths.

Mr. Denis Howell

I have been asked to reply.

The possibility of a risk to health arising in the circumstances envisaged by the hon. Member appears to be very remote. Nevertheless I am seeking expert medical advice on the matter.
