§ Mr. William Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will publish in the Official Report a list showing the number of paid public appointments within her gift, the highest and lowest emoluments payable and the total amount paid in 1975; and what is the likely total for 1976.
Mr. Alan Williams, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 1st April 1976; Vol. 908, c. 560–1], gave the following information:
One hundred and six paid appointments. The vast majority of appointments made by the Department are unpaid. The highest and lowest salaries paid are respectively £16,580 for a full-time appointment and £500 for a part-time appointment. The total amount actually paid in respect of appointments from time to time during 1975 is not readily available. No comprehensive forecast has been made of the likely total for 1976 but the salaries currently payable, as at 29th March 1976, total £230,628 per annum.
