asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what measures he is taking to increase the number of policemen in London up to establishment.

An extensive campaign has been conducted to draw the attention of young people and those who advise them to the improved conditions of service and the satisfying nature of a police career. Recruitment continues at a high level, and the Metropolitan Police Recruit Training School is operating at capacity. Urgent discussions are taking place on the means by which training accommodation could be expanded.
