§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he anticipates negative savings in energy consumption as a result of implementing Clause 13 of the Energy Bill and pursuing Government policy of removing tetra ethyl lead and tetra methyl lead from petrol.
§ Mr. John SmithI cannot estimate the effects of implementing Clause 13 on energy consumption by passenger motor cars, and therefore the combined effect of this measure and reductions in lead content. But the latter will not increase petrol consumption in cars, although they will require the use of more fuel in the refineries.
