Of those included in the list, some receive no emoluments, others are paid daily sitting fees. The highest annual salary in 1975 in respect of full-time service was £19,550 paid to the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland; in 1970 he received £10,750. The lowest annual salary in respect of full-time service in 1975 was £6,000 paid to the Lay Observer, whose office was not in existence before 17th February 1975.

I appoint standing counsel to the Treasury and Government Departments, some of whom receive an annual retainer but subject to that receive emoluments on a piecework basis. The highest annual retainer is £7,500 (no equivalent in 1970); the lowest is £2,000 (1970 equivalent 750 guineas).
