§ Mr. Fauldsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will designate the mediaeval Lanes district of Carlisle a conservation area following the failure of the local authority to do so.
§ Mr. CroslandThe Lanes area of Carlisle was designated in 1968 by my right hon. Friend the then Minister of Housing and Local Government as an area of comprehensive development. I am not aware of any new factors arising since then which would warrant my designating a conservation area in the face of the known views of the responsible local authority.
