Mr. R. C. Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement concerning the meeting of EEC Transport Ministers at Luxembourg on 15th October, with particular reference to the weights and dimensions of commercial vehicles.
§ Dr. GilbertThe EEC Transport Ministers had a useful discussion on future development of the common transport policy. The main aim was to try to find possible priorities for action before the end of the year. No substantive decisions were proposed or taken at this meeting.
The question of weights and dimensions of lorries was mentioned in the course of more general discussion. I emphasised the strength of public concern in the United Kingdom on this issue.
