HC Deb 30 October 1975 vol 898 cc588-9W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the amount of Government support for the Gaelic language in each of the past five years, expressed at 1970 prices; and what proposals for additional aid he has before him at the present time.

Mr. William Ross

Over the last five years the following grants have been made to An Comunn Gaidhealach towards its administrative expenditure in promoting Gaelic informal further education, and to Glasgow University to assist the publication of literature in Gaelic:

primary schools in the Western Isles. I have received requests from An Comunn Gaidhealach and from the Gaelic Books Council for increased grants, and also from Sabhal Mor Ostaig for grant towards the cost of the Gaelic College in Skye. I am considering these requests.
