§ Mr. John FraserThe statistics do not distinguish the total numbers appropriate to categories such as skilled and unskilled. A broad occupational analysis, given in the table below, has been compiled of the total numbers unemployed and registered at employment offices and the numbers of vacancies held at these offices. It should be noted that a considerable number of the unemployed are registered as general labourers, thus indicating that they could do a variety of unskilled work, and are considered for all suitable vacancies and not just those for labourers. The statistics of vacancies relate only to those notified and are not a measure of total vacancies.
