asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which National Health Regions were asked to test the EMI Scanner and whether this was done at the expense of Her Majesty's Government, or what was the financial arrangement.

The prototype was installed at Atkinson Morley's Hospital, Wimbledon (South-West Thames Regional Health Authority) and two pre-production machines were placed at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases (Boards of Governors) and Manchester Royal Infirmary (North-Western Regional Health Authority). The cost of the three machines was met by the Department from funds available for research and development purposes.

Two additional production machines were provided at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol (South-Western Regional Health Authority) and Sheffield Royal Infirmary (Trent Regional Health Authority) to obtain general service experience. The cost of these two machines was met by the Department out of central funds.
