Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what additional capital the Government will make available to British Nuclear Fuels Limited.

Mr. Benn

The Government have decided to provide £25 million additional capital for this company during the financial years 1975–76 and 1976–77. It will take the form of:

1. (a) in 1975–76, £10 million to be made available by way of an issue of shares taken up by the Atomic Energy Authority;
2. (b) in 1976–77, £5 million by way of a further issue of shares to the Atomic Energy Authority, and £10 million by way of loans from the National Loans Fund.

Pending the presentation of a supplementary Estimate for the £10 million equity in 1975–76 it will be necessary to have recourse to the Contingencies Fund.
