§ Mr. EadieAll such steps as are necessary, in co-operation with the responsible organisations, for the completion of the advanced gas-cooled reactor construction programme, the launching of the 4,000 327W megawatt SGHWR programme and the implementation generally of the Government's policy on nuclear power.
§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Energy if, in the light of the drop in electricity consumption throughout the United Kingdom, he is considering a reappraisal of the current and future level of research and development expenditure on nuclear energy.
§ Mr. EadieDespite the present drop in electricity consumption, demand is forecast to grow at between 3½ and 4½ per cent. per annum over the next 20 years. Nuclear power will play a principal rôle in meeting these increases. Our nuclear research and development programmes are directed to this end.
