HC Deb 27 October 1975 vol 898 c315W
Mr. Gould

asked the Attorney-General what plans he has to raise the income and capital limits under the legal aid scheme.

The Solicitor-General

Subject to the House passing the necessary Affirmative Resolutions, the disposable income limits for legal aid, advice and assistance will be raised with effect from 1st January 1976. This will be in accordance with the practice whereby they are kept in line with increases in social security benefits. The lower limit for legal aid will be raised from £500 to £570 and the upper limit from £1,580 to £1,790. The lower limit for legal advice and assistance will be raised from £15 to £16 and the upper limit from £29 to £30. My noble Friend has no immediate plans for raising the capital limits.
