Mr. Alan WilliamsI welcome the agreement, reached with the Building Societies Association on the initiative of the Director General of Fair Trading, as a useful step towards improving consumer choice in a difficult area. As it has only been in effect for two months it is too early to judge its effectiveness. However, I understand that the Director General is keeping its working under careful review and will not hesitate to seek any changes he considers necessary.
