§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will delay for two years the application of the new safety regulations to older fishing vessels having regard to the evidence of adverse effects which is now apparent since the regulations came into force.
§ Mr. Clinton DavisNo. Bearing in mind the risks involved to men employed in the fishing industry and the six years phasing in period for surveys, my right hon. Friend is convinced that implementation of the safety rules and surveys should not be deferred. Some of the older vessels represent the most urgent need and are, therefore, being dealt with first.
