HC Deb 21 October 1975 vol 898 cc107-8W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many unfilled vacancies there are in Wales and England, respectively, for each 1,000 unemployed persons.

Mr. John Fraser

I regret that the details are not available in the precise form requested. At September 1975, 76,496 people were unemployed in Wales and there were 5,130 notified unfilled vacancies at employment offices and 1,000 at careers offices. The corresponding figures for England were 988,244, 123,885, and 23,473. The vacancy statistics relate only to vacancies notified to employment offices and careers offices, and are not a measure of total vacancies. Because of possible duplication the figure for employment offices and careers offices cannot be added together, and it is thus not possible to calculate the ratios requested.
