HC Deb 21 October 1975 vol 898 c111W
Miss Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many complaints there have been against the Royal Ulster Constabulary or the British Army concerning the period while the complainant was in custody at a police holding centre; if he will provide a statistical summary of dates, kinds of complaints, and which centres; and whether there are any public holding centres currently in operation.

Mr. Moyle

It is not possible, without analysis of each of the 12,123 complaints which have been made against the RUC and the Army since 1st January 1971, to distinguish those which related to custody in police holding centres. There are now only two police offices, formerly known as police holding centres, in Northern Ireland. They are at Ballykelly and Castlereagh, although the latter was bombed on 15th October and alternative premises are being sought.
