HC Deb 21 October 1975 vol 898 c124W
Mr. Macfarlane

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many miles of motorway are currently being widened to three lanes; what is the cost of each project; and in which years the motorways were opened for two lanes.

Mr. Carmichael

None, but at two sites on M5 near Bromsgrove climbing lanes, each approximately one mile long, are being constructed on the northbound carriageway. The estimated cost of this work is £587,570. This part of M5 was first opened to traffic in July 1962.
