§ Mr. Speedasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the total number of full- and part-time employees in local government for the most convenient recent date, and the comparable figure for each of the last five years.
§ Mr. OakesThe numbers of full- and part-time employees in local government in England and Wales, excluding police forces, agency, magistrates' courts and probation staff, at mid-June each year are as follows:

The 1974 figures exclude staff transferred to the new water authorities and NHS on local government reorganisation in April 1974, but include staff transferred from the NHS on that date.
