HC Deb 15 October 1975 vol 897 cc735-6W
Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is Her Majesty's Government's latest estimate of the amount of underwater pipeline that will be required to develop the oil and gas fields offshore the United Kingdom.

Mr. John Smith

Approximately 1,200 miles of submarine pipeline may be required to complete the development of existing commercial discoveries of oil and gas in the United Kingdom sector of the North Sea. 240 miles of this have already been ordered.

Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is Her Majesty's Government's latest estimate of the amount of pipe for which orders have been placed with the United Kingdom producers.

Mr. John Smith

In regard to the pipe required to bring gas and oil ashore from the North Sea together with the terminal facilities required to receive it and to bring oil to the upstream side of the refinery, the value of orders placed with United Kingdom producers in 1974 and the first half of 1975 was £6.1 million and £1.6 million respectively.
