asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many one-parent families have incomes below the current tax threshold.

Mr. O'Malley

On the basis of data from the 1974 Family Expenditure Survey, it is estimated that about 350,000 one-parent families in Great Britain then had incomes below the tax threshold. The calculation is based on the individual's declared taxable income in the week previous to interview, not on annual income.
