HC Deb 15 October 1975 vol 897 c739W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of hotels and boarding houses have so far received certificates under the Fire Precautions Act 1971; and what is the estimated expenditure to date by hotel owners to implement the requirements of the Act.

Dr. Summerskill

Approximately 9 per cent. by 31st December 1974, the latest date for which information is available. We have no estimates of the expenditure incurred by hotel owners.

Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many hotels have been closed owing to the impracticability of meeting requirements under the Fire Precautions Act 1971, at the latest convenient date for which figures are avaiable.

Dr. Summerskill

Up to 31st December 1974, 73 of the hotels and boarding houses which had applied for certificates under the Fire Precautions Act had closed, but the reasons for their closure are not known.
