HC Deb 15 October 1975 vol 897 c707W
45. Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the Royal Institute of British Architects concerning continuity of work for architects; and if he will now announce steps which will alleviate the present difficulties.

Mr. Freeson

As I explained in my reply to the hon. Member for Melton (Mr. Latham) on 15th July—[Vol. 895, c. 396.]—I met representatives of the architectural profession on 30th June to discuss their probems. My right hon. Friend the Minister of State, Scottish Office, and the Under-Secretary of State for Wales were also present. The ideas that emerged from this discussion are being carried forward. The measures recently announced to combat unemployment included measures specially directed towards alleviating the problems of the construction industry, and I hope the architectural profession will share in the benefits of these measures.
