§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what advice or directives he has given to local authorities in respect of hypermarkets; and what studies have been made concerning the viability of other shopping facilities, particularly for consumers who are not owners of cars.
§ Mr. OakesAdvice has been given in Development Control Policy Note 13 and Circular 17/72 on out-of-town shops and shopping centres, copies of which I am sending to my hon. Friend. Studies of the effect of hypermarkets on other shopping facilities are at present being undertaken for my Department and for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
