HC Deb 13 October 1975 vol 897 cc643-4W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what growth he envisages in

are employed in the industry; what is the output per manshift; and how this compares with a year and two years ago.

Mr. Eadie

Figures of total production of coal at all mines in Great Britain, the number of wage earners on colliery books and output per manshift at National Coal Board mines, are published monthly in Tables 5 and 6 ofEnergy Trends, copies of which are available in the Library of the House. The latest information, which will be published in the October issue of Energy Trends, is as follows:

the demand for electricity in the next five years.

Mr. Eadie

The outlook is uncertain because of the effects of higher prices and energy conservation and the development of the general economic situation. However, present forecasts suggest that the public supply of electricity may grow at an average rate of about 3.5 per cent. per annum over the next five years.

Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what was the price index for domestic electricity on 1st August 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975, respectively, taking the price on 1st August 1970 as 100.

Mr. Eadie

The price index for domestic electricity, as used in compiling the general index of retail prices, for dates closest to those required is set out below:

21 July 1970 100
20 July 1971 114
18 July 1972 120
17 July 1973 120
16 July 1974 155
17 June 1975 227

The index for 15th July 1975 will be available on 15th August 1975.
