HC Deb 13 October 1975 vol 897 c615W
Sir John Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she has any plans for setting up clinics where any woman may be screened for cancer of the breast.

Dr. Owen

Following receipt of the report of the Joint Working Party on Breast Cancer Screening earlier this year, the Department is planning to set up breast cancer screening trials in certain areas to determine the optimum form any service of this kind might take.

It is of course already open to health authorities to provide whatever diagnostic facilities they consider appropriate for the detection of breast cancer but the advice we have received is that the introduction of a more general screening service is not justified at the present time.
