§ Mr. Roy JenkinsOver the period 1965–1974 the average annual number of persons found guilty in England and Wales of offences of murder was 82, of manslaughter 187, and of other offences of violence against the person 22,927.
The percentage increase by which the figures exceed the corresponding average numbers for the 10 years prior to 1965 is 110 per cent. for offences of murder, 131 per cent. for offences of manslaughter and 142 per cent. for other offences of violence against the person.
